Time for Mr. Keen?
America does not want a Congressman to disappear.
I take that back. America wants any given Congressman, as such, to disappear. Or all of them as a bunch.
But consider what frustrating demands we make on them. Be courageous! And cater!
You can see why a Congressman, for his or her part, might want to disappear. But when one does vanish, as Rep. Thomas Kean Jr., Republican of New Jersey, has done --
It’s June, now. Rep. Kean has not appeared in public since March.
We wonder. And it’s not a good wonder.
It’s like when you step on a snake, and you think, yow, ugh, and you kick it and kick it till it wrinkles away, and you think, well, it was a snake. You kind of miss it.
