Once, addressing a MAGA rally in South Carolina, Donald Trump launched into a brief treatise on words. After calling his critics "stupid," he went on to say, "I'm very highly educated."
Is that something that a truly very highly educated person would say? Or have to say? Or, in so saying, would get a pleased reaction? I suppose it was less insulting to the crowd than the old-fashioned "I may not have much book-larnin'" trope would have been, in this day and age, but surely South Carolinians are aware that nobody calls himself very highly educated if he regards the people he is addressing as educated at all.
