If there is one thing that all us non-colored people can agree on — aside from our being colorblind, which we know, deep down inside, is, on the face of it, untrue — it is that all other people are “people of color.”
Yet isn’t that a strange category? If we put up a booth saying “people of color sign in here,” would African-, Hispanic-, Island-, Asian-, Native-, IndiaIndian- and non-specific-swarthy-Americans flock to it?
Maybe the non-specific swarthy ones, if they were just looking for trouble.
Would a better term be “off-white”? No, that sounds racist.
