Has anyone done a study of characters telling jokes to each other in movies? How about in Paper Moon, set bouncy-black-and-whitely in the Great Depression. Ryan O'Neal, as the Bible-selling father, is motoring along in an open jalopy with his nine-year-old probable daughter Tatum, whom he wishes he were not saddled with, notwithstanding (or rather trying to withstand) that she is twice the survivor, not to mention actor (she won an Oscar) he is.
