"We're in the early stages of World War Three," said Steve Bannon the other day, and that was before the fourteen deep-concrete-piercing 30,000-pound bombs were launched.

But what does Bannon know? World War Two was well over by the time he was born. What do I know, for that matter. I was two months old when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. But I’ll say this: anti-Nazi and Greatest-Generational as that war may have been, it took a toll on most of my friends near my age. Their daddy didn't come back, or came back not quite right. Mine didn’t have to go, because he was the sole support of my mother and great-Aunt Pearl and me. He served as an air-raid warden, and though he never said a word about those years, I'll bet he got some side-eyes from draftees' family.

Maybe this next World War won't be all that personal. President Trump will be in charge, from the White House, or more likely Mar-a-lago, and he will come to the fore with barrages of words. As in "Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated." Which apparently isn’t true, but that's beside the point. A less unabashed person would have made do with "obliterated."

It does not fall to many men, to make God cringe. Here's Trump after the more-or-less successful bombing of those nuclear enrichment facilities:

"I just want to thank everyone -- in particular, God. We love you, God."
